Welcome to a new decade! The past 10 years has brought us bioterrorism, H1N1, mandatory reporting and a myriad
of other federal and state regulations. As we begin 2010, we acknowledge that the challenges for the infection
preventionist are no less daunting-from reviewing the basics of hand hygiene to negotiating the technology of data
mining and electronic medical records. APIC-NNJ has a strong history of participation in shaping our profession.
We have representation in regulatory affairs at the state level, we educate new and experienced practitioners, we
provide consultation for ambulatory care, we support our members who work in long term care and other settings,
and we partner with other allied health organizations. In addition, we have members who participate at the national
level in both APIC and CBIC, and members who present their work at local, regional and national conferences.
This year I am honored to serve as your president. I hope you will join me in continuing our proud tradition.
You can make a difference by sharing your talents. If you attend a conference or meeting, share what you learned.
If you are computer savvy or would like to hone your skills, volunteer to help us with our website or build our
electronic library. Submit your PI project for presentation at the local or national level. Don't be afraid to serve
on a committee or run for office-participating members are the first "in the know".
We can stay at the forefront of infection prevention only by all of us working together.
